Endings and Beginnings

July 25, 2016

Momma and Leo

This past week, it’s really hit me that I hardly don’t have a baby anymore. As I’m approaching my final week of breastfeeding Leo and how he’s days away from walking, I have all sorts of mixed emotions. In fact, I’ll prooooobably tear up more than once writing this post as we approach some recent somber endings but exciting new beginnings.

I’ve luckily had a great journey with nursing both of our children. With Ivy, I ended when she was about 13 months, which was plenty for me, my goal has always been a year. I was pregnant with Leo already so my supply took a drastic turn and while being at work, it was pretty easy to give it up, plus I also did baby-led weaning with her, and she was fully feeding herself. I don’t remember feeling too sad to be done. Although, it was a little sad because you realize that your baby doesn’t NEED  you in that way anymore, but I was definitely ready to have my boobs back! I breastfeed, but I’m not too passionate or attached to it. I just do it, because… well, I just do it I guess. Nutritional, free, and easy for me, thankfully.

With Leo, it’s been a little harder to give up and completely stop, mostly because I’m around him all of the time now instead of at work. I have only been nursing two times a day the past month, just morning and night, as Leo is  superman at baby-led weaning! He’s fully feeding himself and drinking milk on his own now. So I definitely don’t need to be nursing him anymore, but it’s been a little more sad this time as I am weaning him completely. Especially as John and I are having the discussion about two or three children, if he’s our last child, it’s been pretty difficult to swallow that I could be completely done nursing. So begins the complete weaning process anyways. Leo is 13 months, just like Ivy was when I stopped, so I’m feeling better about being done and matching how long I did it with Ivy. And also when your husband keeps asking you when you’re done breastfeeding, I guess it’s time ;)

Last week, I stopped the night feeding so I was just down to once in the morning. And the first night I stopped, I let John put him to bed, which is something he really hasn’t done at all since I’ve been nursing and I don’t exactly do bottles since I stay-at-home (#lazy #hatetopump). When I handed him off to John, he started screaming and crying and looked at me like he knew what was happening and how he wasn’t going to be comforted to sleep by me anymore. GAH. It was heartbreaking. I teared up as I watched him walk away with John and cry as he reached his little arms out to me. But, it was a step that we needed to take, and nice that John is able to get in some snuggles at bedtime now too. It’s just hard to release that attachment from each other as your baby is growing up too fast. And I actually love those snuggles together before bedtime. So sweet.

This week will be my last week as we are leaving our kids at home this weekend for a wedding. Friday morning will be tough as it all comes to an end before we hit the road, but I’m watching Leo grow up into such a toddler right before me and ending nursing concludes the cuddly, sweet, needing Mommy stage, also known as – the baby stage. I’m ready though, as much as I’m sad. But as Leo is taking 3-5 steps in a row lately, I can tell he’s about to leave his own baby stage behind also. He will be fully walking any day now and as I end nursing sessions, we are entering new beginnings together. And that’s attachment enough for me… together.

JULY!

July 1, 2016

July

Hello July!! This month makes me think of HEAT and SUMMER! It is one of the most fun months with TONS to do – festivals, lakes, cabins, concerts, markets, patios, swimming – this month is so much fun! And this July is sure to be busy and full of good times. We have a lot to look forward to this month!

Top 5 To Do’s in July

1. 4th of July! It’s just days away and I am so anxious! We have a lot of family visiting and I can’t wait to get down to our cabin and go boating! We will definitely be eating some delicious food (this flag cake by Ina Garten is fabulous!), drinking some festive drinks (red, white, and blue daiquiri, YES PLEASE!), and I can’t wait to see Ivy light up when she holds a sparkler! Sure to be filled with fun, I always look forward to a reason to party and be with friends and family!

2. ADELE – Wednesday, July 6th in St. Paul, Minnesota. I AM SO ANXIOUS I MIGHT PEE MYSELF. Adele on repeat ALL week long! So amazing. I’ll probably hyperventilate more than once and will most likely loose my voice belting out her songs!

3. Jazz Fest – July 14-16th. Music, food, and a big festival. I  love bringing a blanket down there and listening to the tunes while chowing down on a funnel cake and bbq. Anything outdoors with music and junk food is basically amazing. #amiright #junkfoodlover

4. Our anniversary! July 20th = 4 years! Whew! Two kids and four years later! WOWZA. We have had so many great memories so far, cheers to many many more! We will definitely have to celebrate! Maybe we will actually get out on a date :) Gotta get dolled up! I’m kind of obsessed with rompers lately, and these three (this latte color, this white lace, and this white and black striped one – use code PROMOKAYLEE for 25% off on your purchase from Coquette!) are shouting at me!

5. BEACH and POOL – July = SUN AND HEAT so my plan is to be at the beach and pool as much as possible! This fruit swimsuit for Ivy is so funky and cute! And 40% off with code JULY4 from Gap. And this solid and striped one-piece is so chic! Whatever I’m wearing, I just want to soak in all the sun I can possibly get! Love summer and especially warm summer nights, but hold back the bugs please ;)

Leo’s Wild One!

June 12, 2016

Happy WILD ONE Leo!!! You’re a big ONE year old now! Getting so big so quickly. I wish I could just hit pause for a couple days so my baby stays a baby!

We celebrated his birthday (oh yeah, AND MINE!) with a Where the Wild Things Are themed party (see the inspiration board here). I loved this invitation suite and everything black and white with pops of gold and woods for the party. I had plenty of wood serveware and for entertaining and even reused a wood slab from our wedding that worked perfectly!

To make the party really Wild, of course Leo had to have a gold crown like Max in the book! The leather crown was so adorable and he actually kept it on his head the entire party! He was KING LEO for the day and we all celebrated with a Happy Wild One party!

Leo, our little man. Happy one year to you Leo! This year flew by so fast! You have brought our family so much happiness and love, I can hardly envision life with you baby. Your sweet snuggles melt my heart and soothe my soul. You are so easy going and truly a mama’s boy who just loves to be held. Which I am completely enjoying because Ivy was never a snuggler! You have such a calm demeanor but are quick to smile when someone you like is around or Ivy being funny to make you laugh. I love how you race to Daddy as soon as you see him and are so curious about what he’s doing all the time. Leo, you are sweeter than I could ever imagine a boy to be and I am so thankful for you each day as you nuzzle up on me and suck those two wittle fingers, like all is calm in Leo’s world. It’s the sweetest and we love you so much!

Happy 1st Birthday Leo!

6 Things I Want to Remember About My Kids

April 27, 2016

Kids are just damn cute. The quirky things they do, the hysterical things they say, the funny photo you take of them caught up in their own world with no cares at all, kids, they are just freaking adorable. There isn’t a single ounce of caring what others think on their minds, they simply, JUST LIVE. And they’re so sweet and sassy at the same time. That’s why I need to remember these things, for me now, for them later, for us to remember and laugh about in a year, 5 years, 20 years. Whenever the time, it MUST be documented! (A previous toddler talk on Ivy post here)

  1. Ivy and her blankie. It’s still the cutest thing. She has slept with it every night and every nap since she was just a teeny baby and I finally got brave enough for her to have a blankie in the crib with her. In the past few months, she’s gotten to where she finds a corner of her blankie, and holds onto it with both hands. I giggle each time. Like, why the corner? It’s so cute and we both chuckle now when she says “here’s my little corner!” It’s too funny. And so sweet.

2. Leo and his fingers. He’s been a finger sucker since very teeny. At first it was whichever fingers (it was always two) make it in there first, but now it’s been his right hand and the last two fingers. It’s such a bad habit, per the dentist 😒, but I am ALL about self-soothing and the second he gets tired, he sticks ’em in there, or when Ivy pushes or hits him (ugh), he cries a second and fingers in. It’s pretty sweet to see him do it, keeps him just a teeny baby to me a little more.

3. Ivy and her obsession with anything girly. SERIOUSLY. This girl would wear a pink tutu every day of her life if she could. She has several tutus that she just LOVES to wear and she loves any girly dress also. And ALWAYS has to have a hair bow. She dresses herself now (with me trying to plead this over this usually) and comes out with the funniest combos sometimes. I taught her about matching colors because some of the outfits were so ridic that I would not claim her as my child, but that has backfired because now she thinks she has to have a pink tutu, pink tights, pink shirt, pink hair bow, pink shoes. MY GAWD. So I’m occasionally trying to persuade her into something else that also matches without every shade of pink together imaginable.  But most of the time, I just giggle and think to myself, whatever floats your boat, girlfriend. You’re only a kid once :)

4. Leo and how snuggly and sweet he is. I literally just have to walk over to his crib at nap or bedtime and he instantly cuddles himself up on my chest, inserts fingers, lays his head down and tucks his feet under his body with his tush out. It’s so flipping cute and I look forward to it every time. He’s gotten funny sometimes where he’ll let out a 5 second little whine and then cozies in, that kind of the best because he tries to fight it, but then just gives right in. Gosh, I love a snuggly kid. We so did not get that with Ivy. And he’s always so sweet! Nothing hardly ever bothers him. He’s easy and such a dream baby.

5. Ivy and her (freaking) LOUD VOICE. I swear she is like the loudest person alive, has no awareness of her voice AT ALL. And it doesn’t help that she is talking ALL OF THE TIME. You can have an entire conversation with this chick. A loud one at that. Even though I am usually telling her to lower her voice, I swear that loud voice will get her somewhere someday. (Hopefully something good!)

6. And lastly, Ivy and her obsession with makeup. My friend got her this play makeup kit that looks SOOO real and she has been obsessed with it. Always wanting to put makeup on herself and me and Leo. Hehe. It’s the worst when I’m putting on makeup (rarely these days) and she comes in and starts putting on mine! EEEEK! I have to usually wipe her face off because she has it all over her eyebrows, cheeks, everywhere! Also she LOVES lip stuff! My goodness she is always carrying a lip gloss or my chapstick or sometimes gets into my lipsticks. Gah! That’s where I thank Snapchat! (username kaylee.koch) Those make-up filters are the best!!!

We’re on TV!

April 25, 2016

We are on tv! Pretty exciting and funny at the same time! ;) Our family got asked to be in a commercial for Wireless World and of course we said yes! I was anxious to see how Ivy and Leo would do on tv! I’m usually always shoving my camera in their too-cute-to-avoid faces so I thought they would do just fine, and they did SO well!!! Ivy was a total natural and being surrounded by iPads and iPhones was her dream come true, ha. She dove right in and started playing with them which equaled perfect acting for this commercial. Might have to get her an agent, hehe. And Spoiler Alert! Leo is so flipping cute in this I teared up at the end!!! Happy to have had this opportunity, thank you Andrea with Midcontinent for this opportunity and thank you Wireless World for trusting in us! :)

Leo at the end… gah!!! 💔
