What’s in My Hospital Bag

May 25, 2017

Bag is packed and we are ready for baby! I was NOT going to make the same mistake I did with Leo and attempt to pack a bag as I was in active labor and contracting! John had to bring me like 10 different things later on. Imagine trying to explain to him where my tucks and pads were! EEEP. Soooo, this time, I wanted to be a little more prepared. Plus, third time around, I feel like I know exactly what I want and need with me to make my hospital stay and recovery as sweet as possible.

CAN’T BELIEVE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MY HOSPITAL BAG! EEEEK! This is really making it all feel so close and real!

Here’s what’s in my bag:

Bag – I collaborated with Rebekah Scott Designs on this bag and it is exactly what I needed! She is from Valley Springs, South Dakota and creates and sews these bags herself, with the help of a few other stay-at-home Moms or even Grandmas (adorable!!!)! The products are 100% guaranteed FOR LIFE, amazing!

But, what I love most about Rebekah Scott Designs, is that you get to design the bag of your dreams yourself! She has about 70 fabric designs to choose for the outside of the bag, and almost 60 other fabrics to choose from for the inside. So many choices! And so fun to mix and match prints! I designed the “Olive” bag with the black gingham outside and rocket ruby inside. Obsessed with how it turned out! The floral pops of color on the inside look fab against the black and white outside. I’m anxious to use it at the hospital and for weekend trips!

There are tons of choices on bags and purses also. She has diaper bags, backpacks, shoulder bags, accessories, and lots of other items! Ivy even got the little “Cosmetic” and she had a blast choosing her fabric – of COURSE she chose the purple tabby print. Her favorite color!

What’s really neat too is that Bekah names each her bags about someone who is important in her life (meet and read about Olive). Pretty neat to read about the women and be inspired!

Isn’t the bag PERFECT?! You gotta check out Rebekah Scott Designs! She’s also offering you all $10 off a purchase of $100 or more for the next two weeks, use code AppleofmyIvy10 (cannot be used on bundles). Happy shopping!!

Robe – MUST HAVE. You won’t be comfortable wearing anything with the humongous pad they give you to wear, so this robe to hide everything is perfect. So comfy and I love the beautiful floral pattern. Plus easy access to breastfeed.

Pajama Pants – Find some comfortable pajama pants because that’s what you’ll want to live in! These are really pretty and silky.

Nursing Bras – I LOVE these! They’re super soft and stretchy and really comfortable. No wire or clasps to mess with. Easy and comfy.

Nursing Pads – My milk came in pretty fast with Leo last time, so I expect the same this time. Out of control everywhere at first. These help with messes! Won’t need many since you’ll hopefully be out of the hospital before your milk REALLY comes in! Then use this to catch milk from the opposite breast that baby is feeding. I got several extra ounces each time using this!

Lanolin – Because OUCH. Nipples so sore.

Tucks – These are A-MAY-ZING. They are cool and soft and are medicated with witch hazel to help with burning and itching. Can be used all over down there, on both parts, to help soothe and offer relief.

Pain Relieving Spray – The water bottle the hospital gives you to squirt up there is heavenly and cleans things up real nice, but you still might have pain. A nurse recommended this last time with Leo and it felt so nice! I’ll be bringing it again this time.

Facial Wipes – I LOVE these from Burt’s Bees. The grapefruit is super refreshing, one of my favorite smells. I plan on having these bedside to freshen up quick without having to waddle sorely to the bathroom.

Face Mist – Total sucker for new products and I love everything Pixi. This face mist is enriched with 21 natural oils plus propolis, aloe vera and fruit extracts. It’s another thing that’s just simply refreshing and offers a bit of glow to clean up that tired after labor look! :)

Lip Oil – This new lip oil from Burt’s Bees is sooo fabulous. It’s really moisturizing and so soft. Plus the color, I got showering sunset, is really pretty. Just for a tint of color.

Boppy Pillow – Helps with positioning baby while nursing for added comfort. Find your perfect cover at Ivie Baby Shop, my favorite!

Swaddle Blankets – Start perfecting it as soon as possible! Babies love to be snugged up tight. This raspberry peony swaddle and this morning glory swaddle are so dreamy and pretty!

Baby Outfit – Love everything KicKee! Baby will be coming home in the same outfit Ivy came home in! :) Plus a bow!

Mama Outfit – Find an outfit that’s easy to put on and super comfortable as you’ll still have a baby belly. This one is so easy to slip on and has extra room to wear when you leave the hospital.

Slippers – You’ll want these for walking around the hospital on those cold floors!

Toiletry Bag – Large Makeup Bag and Small Makeup Bag to keep all of your toiletries in – such as vaseline, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, moisturizer, makeup, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair products, etc.

Other Items to consider – Your own pillow, comfortable underwear (although the hospital gives you some gigantic ones that are just fine!), music player, camera, tylenol and stool softener (instead of using the hospitals for a big charge!), snacks, etc.

38.5 weeks! I had Leo 10 days early and that was today! So is baby girl going to be more like Ivy and 2 days late?! Hmmm!

Pockets on the outside… YAAAAS

All ready! Baby will be here any day! Thanks again Rebekah Scott Designs! Love my bag!

Baby Faves

May 17, 2017

You’d think you have it all… after three kids, I mean, you’d think you have it all. Clothes, blankets, gear, e v e r y t h i n g baby. But there are always new things out there that I reaaaally just can’t resist! With each child, there has been that thing I really need (or let’s be honest… want) and just have to have.

With Ivy, it was the Ergobaby and JuJuBe diaper bag, I knew I had to have them!! Plus all of the cute Aden and Anais swaddles. Then with Leo, it was the Baby Bjorn so he could face in or out, super soft June and January swaddles, the UppaBaby Vista stroller so I could fit two kids in there, and of course the Solly Baby wrap, because I was actually going to do some baby wearing with him! And I did! A lot!

Now, with baby number three, I’m again finding things that I must have! Or just really want to try :) Some brands are new, some brands have been around for awhile, either way, I’ve seen them around and have always wanted them! So I’m stocking up with all my baby faves for our last babe! Here they are! And some things for Mama too :)

diaper bag // swaddle // swaddle set // sling // nursing cover // robe

Diaper bag – Starting with this diaper bag. I really do love my JuJuBe one, it’s super functional, stylish, and easy to use. But I have been eyeing these Fawn Design bags FOR-E-VER but could never get myself to splurge on one. A few months ago they had the blush bag 50% off because the manufacturer had the wrong label, or something, so they were selling them on discount. I was super excited, set my clock, and bought one the second they went on sale! I LOVE the look of it and I am so pumped to use it with this new baby!

Swaddle – Clementine Kids is a very new brand (isn’t the name adorable!!!) of swaddles and quilts and OH SO PRETTY. I love all of the pretty floral prints and they are super soft! So beautiful. I got the the raspberry peony and I might just have to buy the buttercup blossom one too :)

Swaddle set – The other swaddles I’ve always loved are the Little Unicorn ones. Again, super fun and pretty prints very very soft blankets. I got the Morning Glory swaddle set and I looooove the light purple in them.

Sling – I’ve gone from the Ergo, to the Bjorn, to the Sollybaby (which I love and still plan to use!) and now I want to try a ring sling! I fell in love with the WildBird ones, although there there are tons of brands out there, I just love the style, the colors, and the girl who created them (@taylorgolden) is totally awesome. Again, I set my alarm clock for the spring launch a couple months ago and got my Cassin Wrap! I can’t wait to try it out!

Nursing cover – THESE NURSING COVERS. Why didn’t I have one with Ivy or Leo?! Especially Leo, that’s when I kind of started to see them around.  I love that there are so many uses for it – nursing cover, car seat cover, scarf, and shopping cart cover. Genius item! I bought this Covered Goods one and a friend gifted me this Milk Snob one, both are very soft and fun prints!

Robe – Lastly, a robe!! MUST HAVE in the hospital! I didn’t have a robe with Ivy, bought just some cheap one from Target for Leo, and now I see these pretty Pink Blush delivery robes around everywhere! So many fun solids and prints and they offer short or long. I opted for the long taupe floral one and it’s sooooo pretty.

Pretty excited about these new finds! What are some of your favorites with your babes??

I’m 37.5 weeks (because I totally count the halfs at this point!) and super anxious to meet this baby! Can’t wait to use all these new pretty swaddles and gear with her! :)

Baby #3 // 37 Weeks

May 13, 2017

Holy moly, rounding home base here! Scary yet exciting!! At this point, everyone’s question is “Are you ready to be done?!” Well, YES, so ready to be done being pregnant and large and uncomfortable, but SO NOT READY FOR A BABY YET! The birth aftermath, taking care of a baby, sleepless nights, sore boobs and ripped apart nipples, fewf, not ready for all that, but I am ready for some sweet snuggles for a baby and to meet her! It all just somehow comes together in the end and you have a new human being, pretty awesome.

Here’s a recap of my pregnancy so far!

20 weeks // 24 weeks // 28 weeks // 33 weeks // 37 weeks

Due June 4th, three weeks away! Ivy was two days late and 7 lbs 9 oz, and Leo was ten days early and 8 lbs 3 oz, so who knows when this little baby girl will be coming! Any day! But I could reaalllly use a couple weeks little girl if you wouldn’t mind cooperating, haha :)

How far along: 37 weeks tomorrow – due June 4
Gender: Baby Girl
Weight gain: 24 lbs – gained 29 total with Leo and 27 with Ivy

Names: Oh gosh. Seriously getting down to the wire. Still don’t have ONE picked out. John likes one, I kinda like another, blah, I don’t know! Stalking Nameberry all day. And the list of the top 1000 names for 2016 just came out. Fun to browse! Waiting for one to just speak to me!

Last Doctor’s check-up: Last Tuesday. Baby’s heart rate was 144 and I was SOOOO scared at this check-up because at my 34 week appointment she wasn’t head down yet! I never had that problem with Ivy or Leo. So after two weeks of stressing and doing all these weird maneuvers to get her to flip, I was so nervous! THANKFULLY she was head down!! AND engaged in the pelvis so I hope she stays now! WHEW! That was nerve-wracking. AND already dilated to a 1 and 50% effaced. I got up to 4 cm dilated and 100% effaced before labor ensued with both Ivy and Leo, so hoping for the same.

Maternity clothes: So large for everything! Basically living in dresses, jeans have been too uncomfortable (but if you’re looking for jeans – love these white distressed ones) now that she’s lower, so dresses and leggings are my go-to. I recently bought this dress (non-maternity) (similar maternity one here) to wear out of the hospital because of how comfy it looked, and let me tell you, it is SOOO comfy! I even fit in it with the belly since it’s a loose fit dress. I also absolutely LOVE this beautiful pastel dress! So pretty. This dress looks super comfy also, and the off-the shoulder is gorg. This ruffle one-sleeve blouse is dreamy, love the floral pattern, so girly and romantic. Here’s another striped pattern one with lovely embroidery! Gah! So many great summer dresses out there!

Here are some more of favorites out there!

Sleep: Oh gosh. With the whole not head down thing really throwing me a curveball, I have been so stressed out about that. So I have been up thinking about that, thinking about a name, thinking about this damn garage sale I’m having! UGH! I fall asleep fine, but then when I wake up to go to the bathroom, I can’t get back to sleep because my brain starts running wild! So many things to get done and do before babe is here.

Best moment this month: THAT SHE FLIPPED! Whew. I was so nervous about having a c-section or going through the painful version to try to flip her. THANK GOODNESS. Thank you baby girl.

Worst moment this month: Now that she’s flipped, she must be weirdly on my sciatic nerve, having so many spurts of horrible pain. HATE THAT. I’d rather take that than a feet down baby though I guess!

Nursery: Ivy and baby will be sharing a room once she is sleeping through the night. Excited for that sister bond they will have :) Ivy’s room (see her room here and here) underwent some changes this week. I moved her old crib back into the room. It’s pretty cute because the crib and Ivy’s bed are both the Jenny Lind style, plus I got the same crib sheet as Ivy has twin sheet. I also painted her room! Whew, shouldn’t be doing that at 36 weeks! I decided to brighten up the gray/blue color we had on 3 of the walls to just a bright white. I used Chantilly Lace from Benjamin Moore and kept her other wall the pink it already is, which is Amaryllis from Sherwin Williams. I’ll do a full reveal once I finish the room!

To Do: Pack my hospital bag!!! Never really got around to it with Leo so I need to get serious about it this time! I’ve partnered with Rebekah Scott Designs (local SD girl!!) and her fabulous bags and I can’t wait to get mine! You can choose your own prints and everything, so I’m anxious to see how mine turned out. I got the Olive and I think it’ll be perfect for the hospital and weekend trips!

See you soon baby girl!!!

MAMA Style // Maternity Dresses

April 30, 2017

Minus this rain and cold out right now, I’m loving getting out of jeans and into dresses! Maternity jeans are soooo tight right now on this big ole 35 week belly, so I certainly prefer to slip into a dress. I love bodycon dresses! (Here’s one for that I’ve been wearing that’s NOT maternity and only $9.90! Comes in many colors). They’re tight on the bump instead of big and flowy to make you feel even larger than you really are. But I can’t complain about flowy dresses either to hide all the extra weight around the hips and butt! Give me all the maxi dresses for so much comfort! I’ve rounded up my eight favorite maternity dresses out there right now. The denim embroidered one is my FAVORITE!

Top || 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
Bottom || 1 | 2 | 3 | 4

Isn’t the denim one so fabulous?! ASOS is my absolute favorite for maternity clothes, they’re cheap and offer SO many options! Plus buy the $19/year 2 day free shipping, it’s so worth it! Like Amazon Prime!

The teal bodycon dress (#3) is sooo comfortable and it comes in 15 different colors for only $47! I want like 5 of the colors! It’s so comfortable and you can really keep it casual for day or dress it up for night.

Here are some more of my favorite maternity dresses out there!

Baby #3 // 33 Weeks

April 15, 2017

33 weeks tomorrow! I am officially freaking out that this baby will be here very soon. Especially since Leo was 10 days early, I need to seriously get in gear with getting some things done with this baby stuff! Finally got out Ivy’s 0-3 month box of clothes to go through. She was October 1st and this baby is due June 4, so they’ll be a little off season, so I’m eyeing all the adorable onesies (like this one  in every color!) and rompers (this is so dang cute!) out there for summer!

Here’s a recap of my weekly photos (and hair styles, hehe) so far

20 weeks // 24 weeks // 28 weeks // 33 weeks

How far along: 33 weeks tomorrow – due date June 4
Gender: Baby Girl
Weight gain: 22 lbs (gained 5 lbs the last month)

Names: Still don’t have one picked out! We have three we like, but can’t really choose one. My husband has a for sure front runner, but I’m not sold! Maybe it’ll grow on me. Still want to use May (my middle name) as her middle name if it goes well with what we pick. Taking suggestions that go with Ivy and Leo please! Doesn’t have to be three letters :)

Last Doctor’s check-up: Yesterday! Baby’s heart rate was 155 and she was moving around a ton! Measure right at 33 weeks

Maternity clothes: Full on maternity style! Loving that it’s nicer out to wear dresses. This chambray dress is so pretty with the detail around the trim. Or this dress, love the funky orange color! This dress is cute with the bow in front! For tops, this eyelet flutter top is so pretty, love it’s long like a tunic! I’ve been wearing this cheetah print top for a little flair on a night out. The fit is great and I like that it’s fitted. Totally gonna get one of these robes for the delivery and aftermath also!

Sleep: I’ve been so busy lately! So at nights I’ve been pretty tired. Two late night girl’s nights in one week has me pretty lazy today. I’m sleeping fine, basically just zonk out. My hips hurt a couple times this week, maybe because I went running then didn’t stretch very well, whoops! But otherwise, still sleeping well, thank goodness.

Cravings: Nothing out of the ordinary – still obsessing over popsicles and shaved ice. They’re my favorite! Pregnant or not!

Best moment this month: Realizing holy shit the baby will be here soon. So anxious to add another sibling to the mix and to hold a little baby!

Worst moment this month: Realizing holy shit the baby will be here soon. ALL THE THINGS I NEED TO GET DONE.

Nursery: I’ve decided the two girls are going to share a room, and Ivy is really excited about it! We have Ivy and Leo and our bedroom upstairs and one bedroom in our basement (two-story home), so the girls are going to have to share for a few years. I’m pretty curious already about all the girl talk that is going to go on! Haha. I bought the same crib sheet that Ivy has as her twin sheet because I’m like, SO EXCITED, about the girl’s and all their matching outfits I plan on doing! So I started with a matching sheet so the room remains with the same theme. I don’t plan on changing Ivy’s room at all, just need to rearrange the furniture to make the crib fit in there. But I don’t really need to worry about any of that until baby is sleeping through the night and is out of our room. So Ivy has her freedom for a while longer! ;)

dress (non-maternity! just sized up)

Just a short while to go! Can’t wait to meet you baby girl!
