Pineapple Crush

April 19, 2015

Ok, so who else is totally into the tropical prints and pineapple trend right now? Have you seen Freshly Picked’s spring tropics line? THOSE BANANA BACKPACKS! And pineapples?! MMM, juicy, sweet, and delicious. CRAVING. The pineapple was big last summer and now this spring it’s all sorts of tropical fruits and prints. But the pineapple is still EVERYWHERE I look! Besides that it’s my favorite fruit and a symbol of hospitality and friendship (apparently… who knew?!), there are so many fun items out there! I’m jumping on this bandwagon trend and found some funky pineapple items to share. I am loving this trend! And I could really use a pina colada… anybody else?!

Pinapple Passion

I got Ivy that swimsuit and it’s SO cute on her! I love the little ruffles! Those hair clips would be darling with it. I can just see us sitting on that towel at the beach sipping on a virgin pina colada with that pineapple cup! I think she would have a lot of fun with that straw. I LOVE this pineapple bustier swimsuit top too. Super cute! I don’t dare buy anything like that until these pregnancy boobs have tamed down though! As if! It’s hard enough having a huge belly! Ugh! Moving on from the TMI…that Kiehl’s facial scrub has GOT to be amazing, isn’t everything Kiehl’s! Pineapple papaya?! Aya be buyin’! Tropical, fruity, invigorating… BOOM. Oh and for me, I am into this turquoise tropical print crop top – love those hibiscus flowers! Still diggin’ crop tops and a long tank with a baby belly! Who else is hopping on this trend?!

Baby Boy // 30 Weeks

April 9, 2015

BabyBoy30WeeksMin-2

How far along: 30 Weeks

Gender: Boy

Weight gain: 22 lbs. EEEK. I gained 28 lbs with Ivy, so we will see how close I get to that with a boy. Again, I ran almost every day when I was pregnant with Ivy, and have only ran catching up to Ivy this pregnancy, so I might gain a bit more, and that’s ok!

Last Doctor’s check-up: March 28th at 28 weeks – I had my gestational diabetes screening and passed! WHEW. I hate drinking that nasty thick orange drink! Also, baby’s heart rate was 150 and he was moving all around. My mom said, “are they sure it’s a boy?” His heart rate has always been much higher than Ivy’s! But he is constantly moving! Next baby appointment is April 28th.

BabyBoy30WeeksMin-6

Maternity clothes: I love my new pink maternity pants! I wore them for Easter and got a lot of compliments :) Plus they’re stretchy and soft. I love the pale pink and with spring here (minus this nasty gloomy weather we’ve been having the last few days) it goes with my pastel obsession right now! I paired it with this floral print cardigan for Easter and loved the combo (here’s another similar one). I’m into layering with a long tank and cardigan for spring and Forever21 and H&M have some cheap long tanks that come in a bunch of different colors. However, I’m jealous of all the cute maxi dresses out there right now! I wish I was wearing this gorgeous ikat maxi dress or this pretty watercolor maxi dress! Might have to buy myself one and hang it in my closet for some motivation to lose the baby weight afterwards : /

Sleep: Sleep is a tad more uncomfortable. I’m a side sleeper and this belly is getting in the way! And I hate when I wake up on my back because I know I’m not supposed to be! Ugh! I am putting on this Aveeno creamy moisturizing oil and this elasticity oil still each night. I love the lotion and the oil feels so good! Soaking in every good nights sleep that I can.

Best moment this month: Getting the crib sheets and changing pad cover! I chose this bowtie bear fabric for the crib sheets and this alligator fabric for the changing pad cover. I had Iviebaby custom make them because she’s pretty much the best!

Worst moment this month: I’m having weird numbness in my leg! GRRR!  That darn sciatic nerve baby is sitting and growing on! It’s only been a few times, but it certainly feels strange and annoying!

BabyBoy30WeeksMin-4

Miss anything: My ab muscles. I feel like a beached whale trying to roll off the couch or bed lately. NOT attractive.

Movement: LOTS. At night he is just craaaazy! I hope this isn’t any indication of how my nights will be when he’s born. I might try googling, “sleep training your baby while pregnant…”

Cravings: All that Easter candy!!! I am not a fan of chocolate (weird, I know), but all of the other sweet and sour candies we got were inhaled. And, I LOVE popsicles! I got some Freezies (my favorite, other than bomb pops) and have had probably two a night the last couple of nights. Ok, maybe three if I have to finish Ivy’s. Can’t stop, won’t stop.

Queasy or sick: Ivy got a bad cold a few weeks ago with a hacking cough and we BOTH still have that nagging cough and tickle in our throats. I’ve had more colds this winter than ever! Otherwise, no sickness from pregnancy.

Looking forward to: Getting some artwork for the nursery! We had a blast on our trip to Minneapolis to get the dresser we wanted from Ikea, so now all the big stuff is done. Time to focus on the details! I want to do a gallery wall with several art prints because there are so many fabulous ones out there and I love the look of it. I like this gallery wall with big and small simple frames and I’m eyeing several prints to fill them with! I want them all! See my baby boy nursery pinterest board here.

To do list: Register to donate our baby’s cord blood at Be the Match. We donated Ivy’s cord blood and plan to do it with this one as well. You have to be between 28-34 weeks pregnant so I’m just in the window now. This is something very special to us as John’s sister Becca underwent a cord blood transplant to battle her cancer, so we are very passionate about this donation! I encourage everyone to do it! It’s very easy and can save lives!!! Read more on the blog about donating here.

10 Reasons Why I Love Spring

March 20, 2015

Spring-2

HELLO FIRST DAY OF SPRING! I have really been looking forward to you!

Here’s an ode to the loveliest season of the year with 10 Reasons Why I Love Spring

1. Weather – Oh hello sun, nice to see you again – No more bitter cold! I love the warmth of the sun and the 60 degree weather feeling like it’s 80 because you haven’t felt the sun’s heat in so long. It brings smiles to everyone’s faces and gets rid of those darn winter blues. I love the nice pleasant weather before all the bugs and humidity come. Those warm days are lovely and the cool nights are just perfect for a bonfire.

2. Vampires beware – Sunlight, sunlight, and more sunlight – Daylight savings time is in full effect and we couldn’t be more appreciative. Waking up to the sun rising in the morning makes it so much more enjoyable crawling out of bed than in the pitch dark of winter. Once you get your kids adjusted to the change (I should have bought black-out curtains), which can be tough on everyone, I say, so long SAD DARK MORNINGS AND NIGHTS and HELLO HAPPY HOUR.

3. Patios, bbqs, and music, hell ya – There’s nothing more enjoyable than a nice spring day, sitting outside on the patio with some tunes on, sipping on a refreshing cool beverage, and grilling up a big juicy burger while the kids run around in the backyard. I look forward to patio weather and grilling every spring! And not to mention, happy hours on a restaurant patio are like the BEST thing ever. For music, summer concert tours get announced, tickets get bought, and those songs that just can’t get out of your head get released. I wonder what song will be the song of the spring? Last spring, it was “Happy” by Pharell, and my gaaawwwd, that was the best song ever!!! My favorite song for spring right now is “Sugar” by Maroon 5! “Suuuugar, so sweet,” …a definite sing along! Which song do you think will be the song of the spring? Look here for Billboard’s 10 potential smashes and comment below!

4. Waking up out of hibernation – The great outdoors – Finally, we can get outside! Outdoor workouts are bearable again and no more hibernating! Long walks, jogging, and/or bike riding, spring is the season to get outside after the tough winter months and gaining 10 pounds. For the kids, parks and the zoo are highlights of spring. Anything to run off that energy! Plus, what is better than cruising in your car jamming out to some tunes with the windows down?! Spring is here, and I do ANYTHING to enjoy some fresh air!

5. Flowers, grass, and rain, oh my! – Flowers and grass are here again! No more blah and brown. Ahhh, I can smell it already, the blooming flowers, the green fresh cut grass, the pure rain, those pleasant spring smells are some of the best. The freshly bloomed beautiful flowers lining the streets and peeking out of the grass make us all giddy inside. Thanks to spring showers, the vibrant flowers make their much needed appearance after the dormant winter. I hope my peonies survived! FAVORITE flower!

6. Show that skin baby!!! Spring clothes – No more winter coats! I love being able to walk out of the house without bundling up in all that annoying winter gear. Spring means color again with pretty pastels and bright hues! I love spring clothes, denim jeans and cool tees for guys, and long flowy dresses (this dress for my maternity self, and this dress for my normal bod) with a cardigan (like this one or this one) or chic spring jacket (denim!) for girls. Plus flip flops and sandals (strappy Birkenstocks)! Although the first time wearing flip flops is painful, it is definitely worth the pain and blisters! Spring is the start of finally getting to show some skin again. Let it breathe baby! And bring on the pedicures! (Click here for Spring’s prettiest nail polish colors)

Keep your eyes on these trendy items to get your wardrobe changed.

7. Fresh farmer’s market food – Get rid of the hearty soups and beef dishes that offer us comfort in the winter, spring food is all about vibrant colors and light foods! I LOVE salads and there is nothing better than a vibrant spring salad with fresh crunchy veggies and/or sweet fruits on it. And, farmer’s markets start up again! May brings the first produce out and I absolutely love going to pick out the produce I want for the week. Something about getting it straight from your local farmer… peace be with you.

8. What’s on tap? 2fers you say? I’ll take it –  Spring drinks – Just like food, throw out the hoppy winter beers and the dark red merlots, and exchange that for a light beer (Summer Shandy is on tap again!!!), a refreshing pinot grigio, a tart lemonade, or a minty mojito with fresh mint leaves. What’s your spring favorite drink? Cheers, mate!

9. Tweet tweet, tweet tweet – Baby animals – I just LOVE the new baby animals everywhere! The little baby birds, baby bunnies, and all of the new baby farm animals! Last year we went to Springtime in the Country (see that post here) and it was so much fun for Ivy to see all the adorable baby animals. Even though those bird nests are a menace, I sure love to see the little babies stick their heads when momma bird comes with their food. Gah! Another fun outdoor event with animals is the Animals on the Amphitheater, which is every first Friday of the months of May – September. The zoo brings different animals to view and teach kids about. Plus, it’s right on the river greenway of the bike trail, so then you can walk around downtown or ride your bike on the trail afterwards!

10. Season love – And the last reason I love spring, is because the next season is summer! BOOM.

Spring Style for Boys and Girls

March 19, 2015

This spring weather gets me ultra excited about spring clothes! So long browns, blacks, and greys, and bring on those pretty pastels and bright hues! I firmly believe in color!

Spring has launched in all of the big stores and it has been nothing short of spectacular. Did you check out my post on my two faves – Solly Baby and Little Hip Squeaks Spring Launch (see post here)? Obsessed!!! So many fun colors and items to choose from.

Well, now that I have a boy coming, I get to look at BOTH boys and girls! And let me tell you, boys’ stuff is legit! It’s a little harder to appeal to my eye at first, but there’s something cool and hip about little boy clothes that blow my socks off. Girls’ clothes are cute or pretty no matter what! I’m having a lot of fun picking things out for both of my babes!

Here’s what I am loving this spring – aren’t they all adorable?! Oh gee! :)

Isn’t that fedora the CUTEST! Obvs baby boy will be a little young for that ;) But I can’t wait to get him wearing one! Still obsessed with fedoras! I’m thinking that neon aqua one-piece for sure! They even have it in baby girl colors!  The striped pocket romper will be perfect and cool for this summer too.

Obsessed with anything chambray or denim and those chambray bubble shorts could go with so many things. They even have them in baby size! And that linen stripe dress, GAH! Adorable. My favorite spring color is coral and that eyelet scalloped dress would be perfect for Easter. My little vintage hippie baby  :)
