Chill Fall Playlist

November 15, 2015

DSC_0128

I love music. And fall brings out some of my all-time favorites… CHILL MUSIC. It’s the best easy listening when you’re sitting around a cozy wood fire, munching on your comfort food dinner, sipping on a red pinot… ahhh, I love me some good music. I first saw this post on another blog (here) where she posted her favorite fall playlist and I LOVED the idea! So I’m copying :) And I just started my three-month free trial of Apple Music, so I’m pumped about playing any and every song out there! It’s fun to discover new music and remember old favorites. Now to cozy up by the fire with that glass of pinot and my fluffy knit blanket (that’s 50% off right now!)…

Here’s my chill playlist for the fall

Halloween Books for Kids!

October 15, 2015

Halloween books for kids

So it is no secret over here that I LOVE HALLOWEEN! There’s so much about it that is so FUN! The pumpkins, witches, ghosts, skeletons, everything! I love it all! I LOVE to be scared and spooked! And I couldn’t wait to share it with Ivy this year now that she’s a little older. One of the ways that I can show her what Halloween is all about is through a book, and if you know Ivy at all, she LOVES books! We were at Child’s Play Toys a while back and came across her favorite book character – Llama Llama! She’s obsessed with Llama Llama Red Pajama so I knew she would love the Llama Llama Trick or Treat too. And I was right! She had to read it every nap and night for a week straight! It introduced her to trick-or-treating and costumes. We got out her pumpkin bucket and have been practicing saying “trick-or-treat,” so she’s all ready for Halloween night! I even put a couple pieces of candy in it :) Oh well!

I also got her the Pete the Cat and the Five Little Pumpkins book and she’s obsessed with that one too! She loves the Pete the Cat Old MacDonald Farmso it is fun for her to see the same characters she already knows with Pete the Cat and Llama Llama. And lastly, my Mom bought her the Spooky House book and that is her absolute favorite! It’s a lift-the-flap book and it has eight ghoulish scenes to explore, so you get to know all there is about Halloween! And she loves to lift the flaps, she practically has them memorized!

I was curious to see what other Halloween books are out there because we have been reading those three EVERY nap and nighttime! And there are some really good ones out there! Many of them are characters or similar books that Ivy already knows, like the Peek-a-Boo! (author of Peek-a-ZooPeek-a-Who, and many more), Where is Baby’s Pumpkin (author of Where is Baby’s Belly Button, Where is Baby’s Christmas Present, and many more), and Boo! (author of Toot, Potty, and many more).

We love reading over here! And what better way to get into the Halloween spirit! Trick-or-treat :)

Meow! Black Cat Style

October 5, 2015

I’m so excited about October! It’s one of my favorite months because I LOVE Halloween! This year, I think I might go as a black cat! I want something simple yet sassy! I’m LOVING this LBD (this one is great too) and then I’d get some cat ears like these or these. It seems like a pretty versatile costume and one I can DIY with some fun accessories. But I love couples costumes too, look at these! Some are really funny and original! Would John be a cat with me though? Ha! I guess he could be a mouse! :)

Keeping on the black cat montra, here are some fun black cat items to make your Halloween Meow!

And taking it back to last year, this was Ivy! Haha! So funny! John brought this costume home from Costco, and I COULD HAVE DIED. My little girl in a CHICKEN costume?! But it ended up being really cute and funny! But this year, she’s mine!!  I’m sure she’d LOVE to be a princess or Minnie Mouse! Still deciding on hers! TBD

Sweet Dreams Baby

September 15, 2015

Sleep. We all need it. And especially want our babies to get it (so we can get ours too!). Ivy was SUCH a good sleeper. Such a scheduled baby! She was amazing and would sleep from 630pm – 630am right at 3 months. I was kind of the freak mom who was on a strict schedule with her and always made sure she had the perfect sleeping environment (dark, white noise, comfy blanket, swaddled real tight…goodness). Well now, with Leo, I vowed to not be that psycho sleep Mom.  He’s barely on any schedule at all (more like Ivy’s schedule) and I wanted to get him sleeping in all conditions, because let’s face it, he would have to sleep around Ivy’s NONSTOP talking and running around the house. And Leo’s done well. He’s been good at falling asleep anywhere and at anytime. But nighttime? Different story. He’s hardly come even close to sleeping through the night! And that’s where it gets tough.

Now is it because he’s bigger, a boy, or just the way he is? Or perhaps it’s because he’s not really on any schedule or routine? We transitioned him to the crib and regressed a month ago, then he got a cold for 2 weeks and regressed a little,  and now this week, I have been determined to trial and error a few things to get this whole nighttime sleeping situation better for the both of us.

I am convinced a schedule and routine is key like I had with Ivy, and I’m putting in better effort at getting him to sleep during the day and night at a consistent time and including a nighttime routine. I’ve pushed for a bedtime around 730, give or take a little, so that John is putting Ivy down and I’m putting Leo down at the same time. We take a bath every other night, and he LOVES the bath!! It’s so cute! I’ve almost got him giggling, I can’t wait for that! And he gets in his pajamas, I turn off all the lights, snuggle him into a blanket, and nurse away. I’ve made sure to not let him get TOO tired before bedtime because there were a few days he would fall asleep the second he hit my nipple, and then he’d wake up not long after and starving. So I’ve made sure to start the bedtime routine before it’s too late.

Also, he kept breaking out of the swaddle so I thought that was a problem too. I bought one of the SwaddleMe tight swaddle wraps thinking that might help to keep him all bundled in, like Ivy loved. Well it did a little, but he would still SOMEHOW get his arms out. I decided to try keeping his arms out since he’s really loving sucking on his hands, plus it could calm him back down if he did wake up, and it worked!  So arms out it is!

Sooo, between the bedtime routine and figuring out his best sleeping situation with arms out, he’s been consistent all week at (finally!!!) just getting up once at night, around 330am, so we are all getting happier at this house. Especially me. He would get up between 1-4 times a night before. So this just once, is MUCH better. Fewf. It’s quite difficult figuring out your baby wants and needs for sleep. Leo has been so different than Ivy, so I’m glad I gave in and realized he’s different and tried out some other methods to figure out what LEO needs.

Meanwhile, I’ve started looking for some sleep sacks because Leo is always kicking out of his swaddle, even with his arms out. I want something to keep him warm and cozy in bed, without having the scare of a loose blanket. I never used a sleep sack with Ivy because she did fine with a swaddled blanket, but Leo is definitely going to need a sleep sack. And there are SOOOO many cute ones out there!!!! I’m a sucker for a cute swaddle blanket, but now all these sleep sacks might have me obsessed too! I had heard of the Halo Sleep Sacks, but there are so many more out there now!!! Even Aden and Anais has cute ones (like this and this!)! I bought Leo this adorable bear print one from Gap!

So here’s a roundup of some of the coolest and cutest ones out there!

That mermaid one?! Come on!!! :)

Baby Book

July 21, 2015

Babybook-9Let’s talk baby books.

If you’re like me, you have FULL INTENTIONS of keeping up with this and having this adorable baby book to cherish for all time and show your child, buuuut, the weeks, months, or even years, go by and you still haven’t touched it. #guilty.

Well, since having Ivy, there are some really cute new baby books out there that definitely grasped my attention and I HAD to have them since I never exactly got around to doing Ivy’s anyways : / They’re from Lucy Darling and just absolutely perfect! I have several of her prints in Ivy’s room and her monthly stickers are fun also!

Lucy Darling combined her fun prints and cute fonts to make a “Simple Book of Firsts,” with none of that extra corny stuff you don’t need. And the title on front says “Baby’s First Year,” but it actually goes up to five years, awesome! I decided to purchase this for Leo, and since I wasn’t too thrilled about Ivy’s book at the time either, I got one for her to go back and fill out too (thank goodness for my blog to remember everything!!).

So if you still haven’t gotten around to your baby book, get this one! It’s adorable and affordable ($35) and I can’t wait to write in it!

And they are offering our readers 15% off through Friday with promo code APPLE2015 – perfect time to buy! And check out what else she has in store – nursery prints, monthly stickers, books, and more! Head to Lucy Darling shop to check it all out.

Here’s a sneak peak at the girl and boy version of the books
